Trainer Bio:

My name is Ciana, I’m 17 years old, and I absolutely love working with horses and seeing them progress. My goals this summer with Alaska are to establish trust and respect with her towards myself and others, better develop my own horsemanship skills, and– most importantly– to find Alaska a loving home. I hope to spend as much time as possible with Alaska this summer, teaching her new things and exposing her to new environments to best prepare her for her future home and help her make someone a wonderful horse.

Alaska has progressed so much in just a month! She was very skittish the first couple weeks, but now she’s very trusting and loves people! She’ll whinny when she sees me and comes up to greet anyone who passes by her stall or paddock. She’s a very sweet, curious, smart, and responsive horse! So far, she
-Ties quietly for grooming and saddling
    -Picks up all 4 feet
-Lunges (VERY responsive to voice cues)
-Goes through basic obstacles (ground poles, bridges, tarps, backs through poles, etc)
-Knows basic showmanship (leading at walk/trot, whoa, back up straight on and off side, forehand and haunch turns, side-passing)
-Trailers (loads great and backs out)
-Saddles easily and lunges with saddle at walk, trot, and canter
    -Bathes
    -Clips
-Desensitized to plastic bags, tarps, air horn, whips, traffic, and plastic bottles

Alaska is a very quick learner and just wants to please! She ties really hard to do the right thing while learning new stuff and once she understands what’s being asked of her she is willing and responsive. She is so much fun to work with and is going to make an amazing horse for someone!

Alaska improves each day! She is sticking her turns more consistently and has even done them all at liberty. She has also gained a lot of confidence and has been tackling new things without hesitation! For example, she crossed a river for her first time without even batting an eye and walked through a cowboy curtain without hesitation even though she had never seen one before. She is a very willing horse and just wants to please! She tries really hard to do well and gets upset when she messes up… it’s actually quite cute. She is a joy to work with!

Alaska was also in the St. Paul Parade on the 4th of July and did awesome! She was a little nervy when we first arrived, but settled down after a while and was excellent during the actual parade! She was exposed to so many new sights and sounds, but she did great.

Alaska is also filling out nicely and her coat looks loads better now than when she first arrived!

Alaska is doing amazing! She’s improving on all the skills she’s previously learned and is doing great learning new ones. The last week of June she got to tag along with my other horses to a horse camp I was counseling for. There she was handled by kids all week and did awesome for them! She was even used to go over horse safety with the kids where each kid came up to her to practice brushing and leading horses. One little girl loved Alaska so much and led her all over the place and through/over obstacles that were set up for the big horses. Alaska did everything she asked and was very respectful.

This past Saturday, Alaska went to her first show. We only showed in Showmanship, but Alaska received a third and a first place!! She was awesome! The day after she went for a walk with me and some of my friends up our busy road and through a neighborhood. The traffic didn’t bother her a bit. In the neighborhood, she got lots of attention by many excited kids! She let them all pet her and was never nervous. We then walked her up to a nearby Dutch Bros and she was completely calm and happy to hang out there for a while the employees came and took pictures with her! She was such a good girl!
